Tampa-Chicago-Hong Kong-Bangkok

We have arrived at TPA and are waiting in the USAir lounge for our flight to Chicago. We weighed in at 30lbs for Barry's bag and 31.5 for mine. Must be flat iron put me over. Either way we are allowed 44 so there is plenty of room for souvenirs to bring back.

Arrived in Chicago by 8 est. American does first class nicely. Warmed assorted nuts to start, nice chicken dish for dinner with yummy rolls and warmed chocolate chip cookies for dessert.   It has been 29 years since we have flown into O'Hare airport. On that one occasion the weather grounded the entire Midwest. It was a mess at the airport everyone trying to get new flights.  I stood in line while Barry headed to a phone booth to call the airline. Remember this was 1986. Cell phones weren't even on the radar. He was successful and we ran jumping over bags and people from American to United and got the last flight out that day to our destination. Luggage?  It showed up at midnight. After that event we swore off ever going through O'Hare again.   Barring weather we are due to fly out at midnight. While we are waiting we are hanging out in the British Airways club.

Here is a bit of information to tuck away - distance from Chicago to Hong Kong is 7789 mi. Flying time is 15hrs and 35 min
Sleeping on the plane in our pods makes me think of the movie cocoon   Here we are at midnight getting ready to take off.

5 days and counting...

We are busy getting ready to go on Saturday.  Laying out clothes packing and unpacking clothes in our clothing packs.  Being limited to 44lbs  for our international flight and only 33lbs for internal flights is a challenge.  Especially since we are going for a month.   Barry has done all of his homework online as to where we can get our laundry done along the way and more importantly, where to get our 2 hour massage upon arrival in Bangkok. I on the other hand have checked out the shopping opportunities, elephant rides and other exciting adventures.   It is not the clothes so much that is the weight issue.  After all we took even less to Africa last summer.  But it is all the toiletries and medications that we need to pack.  The camera batteries are charged and I should have more than enough camera SD cards to take pictures to my hearts content.

I will attempt to post pictures along with commentary as we travel.  We have been assured there is WiFi everywhere we go.  Check in as often as you like.

See you when we return!
